
THE LINK BETWEEN ENERGY, POVERTY AND CLIMATE CHANGE IN THE LATIN AMERICAN AND CARIBBEAN (LAC) REGION: OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES

The energy transition process has been exposed to the economic limitation produced by the pandemic, in which governments, necessarily, prioritized resources for the health sector. Although, there is recognition by governments of the need to implement energy efficiency actions, both in urban and rural areas, rural electrification derived from the high price of energy and/or import costs and inadequate management of energy resources exacerbate the crisis. Although the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region has vast energy resources, countries have not yet been able to guarantee adequate levels of energy security.
